What We Do

Our dedicated Choice Security Team provides a safe, supportive and reassuring presence across Sunderland Royal Hospital. Operating 24 hours a day, seven days a week, the team helps protect staff, patients and visitors while maintaining a calm and secure environment.

Working closely with clinical teams and hospital staff, our Security team responds quickly to incidents, supports colleagues in challenging situations, and ensures that safety standards are met across the site.

Our Security Team

Our experienced Security Team helps keep the hospital environment safe by:

• 24/7 CCTV Monitoring
  Closed‑circuit television covers the hospital and surrounding grounds and is monitored around the clock to keep everyone safe.
• Body‑Worn Cameras
  Security officers wear body‑worn video cameras to support evidence gathering and enhance safety during any security incident.
• Staff Attack System
  High‑risk areas are equipped with a silent alarm system that instantly alerts the Security Team and colleagues when urgent support is needed.
• Patient Assistance
  Security staff work alongside nursing teams to support and manage situations involving violent, aggressive or confused patients, as well as abusive visitors.
• Access Requests
  Our Security Team manages access to secure areas across the hospital. Staff can sign keys in and out from the security control room.
• Intruder Alarm Response
  The team attends and investigates any intruder alarm activations and takes appropriate action to ensure the continued safety of the site.

The Security Control Room is located on B Level, beside the main reception on the Hylton Road main concourse.
